JEWELLERY CARE

GOLD

Caring for your jewellery

Giving your gold jewellery a wash is actually a very simple process you can do at home. First, fill a bowl with a ratio of five parts warm water to two parts dish soap. Don’t use the sink in case your jewellery ends up going down the drain!

Avoid soaking gold jewellery that contains gemstones other than diamonds.

After soaking the jewellery for a few hours, rinse it with hot water and dry it off with a microfiber cloth. Finish up the job with a polish using a jewellery cloth.

While this method will work well for plain gold jewellery and gold with diamonds, you should avoid soaking gold jewellery that contains other gemstones. For these pieces, clean them with your water and soap solution using a soft cloth and then use another damp cloth to get rid of any soap before letting the jewellery air dry.

For polishing, you can do this at any time by yourself with your own jewellery cloth or you can bring it to Danny Designer Jeweller for a professional polish.

SILVER

Caring for your jewellery

How can I prevent my sterling silver jewellery from tarnishing?

Silver holds a special place in any jewellery collection, giving off a cool, brilliant radiance that adds a certain glimmer to any outfit. When paired with clear and coloured gems, sterling silver has a way of harking back to antique style whilst keeping the aesthetic fresh and modern.

Most of us would love to wear our favourite pieces 24/7, although over time sterling silver can begin to lose its lustre and begin to tarnish. However, this isn’t a process you should take for granted, as there are steps you can take to preserve your jewellery in pristine condition for years to come.

Here’s what you should know about taking care of sterling silver

When you buy sterling silver jewellery, you are getting a product that is 92.5 per cent silver, with the remainder made up of another metal such as copper. Most sterling silver from a reputable source will be stamped with ‘925’.

It is often possible to tell whether your jewellery is genuine sterling silver by using a clean white cloth to gently rub the surface. The real thing will often leave black marks on the cloth, caused by oxidation. Fortunately, when you choose Danny Designer Jeweller, you can buy in confidence that when we say sterling silver, we mean sterling silver.

For polishing, you can do this at any time by yourself with your own jewellery cloth or you can bring it to Danny Designer Jeweller for a professional polish.

EVERY DAY CARE

Caring for your jewellery

To preserve the quality of your beloved gold keepsakes, it is important to take care of them as you wear them.  This includes keeping your jewellery away from harsh ammonic based cleaning products and harmless chemicals such as hairspray and perfume.  A good rule of thumb is to make sure your jewellery is the last thing you put on and the first thing your take off.
